Office Assistant – Assessor’s Office
Position Open until Filled.
Position Summary: The Office Assistant helps in-person departmental visitors, answers telephone calls, and refers visitors/callers to the appropriate sources for assistance. This position enters data into various programs and records maintained by the Assessor’s Office.
Essential Job Functions
- Greet visitors of the department, respond to inquiries, and/or refer visitors to the appropriate sources for assistance.
- Answer the telephone for departmental staff, respond to inquiries, and take messages.
- Prepare various files and maintain the file system of department documents.
- Type documents such as correspondence, memoranda, reports, and other departmental documents.
- Prepare and maintain various reports and records according to established procedures.
- Operate standard office equipment including typewriter, personal computer/word processor, photocopy machine, scanner, and calculator.
- Receive, sort, and distribute departmental mail.
- Provide support services to other personnel as required.
- Enter data from a source document into a data entry device by utilizing all necessary programs.
- Assist in training new data entry employees.
- All other duties as assigned.

- Effective communication skills both verbal and written.
- Thorough knowledge of and experience in utilizing a variety of computer systems, hardware, and software packages.
- Organization and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to read and understand legal descriptions and appraisal manuals.
- Knowledge in reading legal descriptions of properties.
- Ability to carry out written or oral instructions independently.
- Ability to interact positively with the public, volunteers, board members, County staff, and state personnel.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
